Revolutionizing Range Days: DA Targets Bring Safety and Instant Feedback to Shooters

In his insightful article, “DA Targets: Redefining Range Day Feedback and safe shooting targets” Mladen Simovic explores how DA Targets are transforming shooting practice by combining safety, durability, and instant visual feedback.

The Challenge with Traditional Targets

Handgun training requires more consistent practice than rifle shooting, especially for those involved in close-range drills or competitive shooting like IPSC/USPSA. While paper targets are safe, they lack immediate feedback, and steel targets, though responsive, pose risks of ricochet and are cumbersome to set up.

DA Targets: A Safer, Smarter Solution

DA Targets introduce a patented heat-sensitive, self-healing material that changes color upon bullet impact. This innovation provides clear, immediate visual confirmation of hits without the dangers associated with steel targets. Available in various temperature-specific versions—Cool Weather (45–80°F), Mild Weather (60–80°F), and Warm Weather (60–100°F)—they cater to different climates.

Field Testing and Performance

Simovic tested the targets in Wyoming's variable climate using firearms ranging from a Glock 43X 9mm to a Thompson/Center Encore .30-06. The targets consistently displayed bright red or yellow impact zones, which faded back to their original color within minutes, depending on the temperature. Even after extensive use, the targets maintained their integrity, though it's advised to avoid hollow-point bullets, which can cause permanent damage.

Enhancing Training Efficiency

DA Targets offer a lightweight, easy-to-set-up alternative to traditional targets, eliminating the need for constant maintenance like patching holes. Their immediate feedback mechanism allows shooters to adjust and improve in real-time, making training sessions more productive and safer.
