How does the color change work?
Our patented heat-reactive material absorbs the heat from a bullet and temporarily changes color at the point of impact. For the best visual effect, choose the target that matches the temperature you are shooting in.
How long does the color change last?
The color change typically lasts 30 seconds to a few minutes, depending on ambient temperatures.
What climates can I use DA Targets in?
DA Targets are fully weatherproof and perform in all shooting environments, from freezing conditions to extreme heat. The material maintains its self-healing properties regardless of temperature.
For the best color-change visibility, select the target that matches the shooting temperature. Even outside the ideal range:
-
The target will still react to hits
-
The self-healing properties still work
-
Only the color-change visibility may be reduced

What are DA Targets made out of?
DA Targets are made from a proprietary polymer blend developed over a year for maximum durability and self-healing. No other target on the market matches their quality, longevity, or performance.
What calibers are these targets rated for?
DA Targets work for calibers from .17 HMR and easily reseal with a .50 BMG. Avoid hollow points and wadcutters—FMJ or ball-style ammo is recommended, ideally anything round or pointy.
How long will they last?
Durability depends on caliber and target size. These targets are built to withstand hundreds or even thousands of rounds. They are rated to handle 150 rounds of 5.56 per square inch before any permanent degradation begins.
For example, we’ve fired over 1,000 rounds of 9mm through a 6" gong, and it’s still fully functional. The color-changing feature lasts the entire life of the target.
How should I store the targets?
The material is sensitive to UV light, which can fade the color over time. Store targets indoors and out of direct sunlight when not in use. Even if faded, self-healing and hit-reactive properties remain intact.
What’s the best way to mount them?
Use a wood screw, staples, or clamp to attach the target. The target must swing freely when hit. Avoid mounting against a hard surface or backstop, as this can damage the color-change effect.
Can I use DA Targets with thermal or infrared optics?
Yes. DA Targets are fully compatible with thermal and infrared optics. When a round passes through, it transfers heat into the material, creating a brief heat signature around the impact point. This makes each shot clearly visible through thermal scopes or cameras.
Perfect for sighting in thermal optics—no sensors, electronics, or special equipment required.
Safety Information
-
Designed for projectiles over 800 FPS.
-
Do not use low-velocity rounds (BBs, airsoft, paintballs), as they may bounce back and cause injury.
-
Targets do not stop or deflect bullets, so always use a safe backstop or berm.
-
Wear eye and ear protection and follow all range rules.
Once a DA Target reaches the end user, we cannot control usage. DA Targets assumes no liability for injury or property damage due to improper use or modifications. The end user assumes all risk.
